Areas of Experience

Sleep Consulting

Believe it or not, around 30% of children will develop behavioural sleep problems. I’ve worked with babies and exasperated parents facing a range of sleep challenges both intrinsic (nature) and extrinsic (nurture). And in my experience, even if you’ve tried ‘everything’, these sleep problems can be quickly and easily resolved. You just need the right support, strategy and confidence to trust in the process.

    • Sleep onset association – aka trouble falling asleep
The inability to fall asleep without someone or something (e.g. patting, rocking, holding, co-sleeping, nursing, feeding, sucking on a dummy, watching TV).

    • Sleep maintenance difficulties – aka trouble staying asleep
Similar to sleep onset association but the infant or child wakes in the night requiring someone or something to fall back asleep, e.g. a bottle or dummy.

    • Sleep anxiety/fears
The inability to fall asleep or stay asleep alone yet sleeps well if a parent/adult is present (comes with complaints of insomnia, fears and other worries).

    • Parasomnias – aka unwanted experiences during the sleep/wake cycle
Unexplained crying, screaming, distress, talking, moving, walking, banging or hitting in the night or upon waking (includes sleep terrors, confusional arousals, nightmares, sleep walking, sleep talking and repetitive movement).

    • Inappropriate sleep etiquette – aka unwanted sleep behaviours
Includes not going to bed, not staying in bed, late bed time, early morning waking, inappropriate bedtime requests (e.g. food or drink) as well as talking, singing or playing instead of sleeping.

If the sleep issue your little one is having isn’t in this list, don’t worry. I can help!

Whatever behavioural sleep problem your little one’s facing, I’ll create an easy-to-follow personalised sleep plan with action steps and troubleshooting tips that take out the guesswork. So you and your baby can get the sleep you’ve been dreaming of and wake up refreshed to tackle the day.

Lactation Consulting

Breastfeeding may be natural but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Nursing a newborn is relentless so if you’re struggling, it can really take its toll. The good news is, a skilled lactation consultant can help you find your rhythm so you and baby both get the best from the experience. If feeding is getting stressful, it’s time to get some help.

    • Breastfeeding premature babies or multiple infants

    • Tongue tie, or post tongue tie rehabilitation

    • Effective latching and positioning at the breast

    • Breastfeeding adopted or surrogate infants

    • Breastfeeding after breast surgery

    • Building, boosting and or maintaining milk supply

    • Sore/cracked nipples, ductal thrush, blocked ducts or mastitis

    • Nipple shields and supply lines

    • Vasospasim

    • Expressing and storing breastmilk

    • Weaning from breast to bottle naturally

    • Ways to stop lactation

    • Supplemental feeding methods (Bottle, cup, syringe)

    • Soothing infants with excessive crying or colic symptoms

    • Understanding and managing reflux (physiological, Gastro Osophageal Reflux Disease GORD and silent reflux)

    • Any other breastfeeding or related problem or concern.

Post Natal Support

Bringing a newborn home is exciting. But the fourth trimester is one hell of a demanding time. As a lactation consultant and postnatal midwife, I care for, educate and support parents in those early days when everything feels unfamiliar and even the simplest thing seems like an impossible task.

I’m a trained Mothercraft Nuse who will empower you with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices and confidently navigate the crazy beautiful days of early parenthood.

Parenting a newborn is a challenge.

Your baby didn’t come with instructions and when it comes to crying, feeding, settling and sleep problems there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.

Though there’s plenty of information out there (books, blogs, fellow parents, strangers at the supermarket), advice can be conflicting. And when you’re sleep-deprived new parent, it’s hard to know where to turn.

This is where I come in, by helping parents just like you overcome the overwhelm and learn healthy skills for happy babies.
